Our story

Little Farmers Books started long before we ever thought about running a bookshop.

It really began with our family’s farming background and our own love of books, tractors, and animals. Living in London for work, weekends at the family farm were an escape.

When we started a family, tractors and cows were naturally the key themes for clothes, toys and books. This, along with hours spent riding on Grandad’s tractor and collecting eggs with Granny, embedded a love for all things farms.

And as we chatted with other parents, we realised this wasn’t just our child. Most kids seem to go through a tractor or farm animal stage. There’s something about big machines and friendly animals that resonates with them.

At the same time, we were reading books – and although ‘Oh Dear’ and various versions of ‘Old Macdonald’ are great (we stock a brilliant ‘Old Macdonald’ in the shop), we all needed more variety.

So we started hunting for farm themed books that captured the joy of farm life, tractors, animals, mud, fields, and so on - books that children love so much that they pick them up on their own to look at the pictures.

That’s really how Little Farmers Books began. It was just a thought: If farm-themed books helped our child to love reading, maybe they could help other families too.

Now we stock books that feel enjoyable, fun, and appealing to tractor-mad toddlers. We look for books that make reading feel easy and joyful, not forced – and books that we would actually read to our children, on topics that kids love.
